My Milk Supply Breakthrough

Are you experiencing low milk supply?  Are you not able to pump extra milk to stash away for baby while you are away?  It is so vital for us as breastfeeding mothers to be able to have milk saved, so we don’t have a baby attached to our hip all the time. I am going to tell you the #1 thing that was a game changer for me.

Plenty of milk or not enough

If you have an overabundance of breastmilk or you don’t, There is always a mom who needs lacation advice from other mothers.  I was blessed to breastfeed all three of my children for over a year.  Now that my youngest and last child is nine months, I recently noticed a change in my supply.  How did I fix it?  If you know this secret or not, it may not even be a secret.

My scary low milk supply moment

I have been breastfeeding my son for the last nine months.  I noticed that he was not getting as much as he could, I was staying hydrated, eating a healthy diet and doing everything I could to make sure I had extra milk to pump to stash away.  It was not enough; I was maybe pumping two ounces, my milk supply was low.

The #1 thing that increased my supply

One night I was looking at a friends Instagram story, and she was having some difficulties herself with breastfeeding.  She was drinking a sports drink called Body Armor.

 

In her story, she mentioned how she pumped 11 ounces just from drinking one bottle.  I was impressed, so I had to try it for myself.

I was out the door faster than a buttered bullet.  I found myself at Target and bought one, just in case it didn’t work for me.  They cost about $1.50 per bottle.

What happened after I drank this liquid gold

So I came home and drank the bottle. And within a matter of 30 minutes to an hour, I felt it.  The rush of milk but it was different, I was engorged and had to pump.  It was after I breastfed my son.

I pumped about 8 ounces!  That’s a huge difference from 2 ounces!  I was so excited about this.  I texted my friend from that Instagram story I told you about and we celebrated together.  It worked for her, and I  was on my way back to the store for more bottles.

What is in this sports drink that boosts milk supply

So I found out that one of the main ingredients in Body Armor is Coconut water.  Coconut water is very hydrating and loaded with electrolytes.  Essential for breastfeeding moms.  The other elements are vitamins B3, B5, B6, B9, B12.  Also, there is 700mg of potassium.

I have not tried just coconut water to see if I get the same outcome. But I eventually will compare the two.  If it has the same effect then I know it must be the Coconut water.

The two types of Body Armor

There are two types, a Lyte version with 3 grams of cane sugar, and a regular version with 18 grams of cane sugar.  There are a variety of flavors.  My personal favorite is the Lyte Peach Mango flavor and the Lyte Orange Mango.

I know that the regular version has too much sugar for me.  I am not saying I won’t try it once in a while, but I think long term I’m going to stick with the Lyte version.  Its sweetened with cane sugar and no artificial sweeteners.  Kobe Bryant is a co-founder of this fantastic sports drink that makes it even more impressive.

All I can say is if you are wanting to boost your milk supply, give Body Armor a try.  It may work for you and it may not.  But I was proof that it works.  If you see a difference in your milk supply, please leave a comment below and let me know!

I would love to hear about it: body Armor or Coconut water.  I suggest trying out the Body Armor first.  It is worth a shot, or make sure you are extra hydrated and eating enough calories to make the milk your baby needs.

Give it a try

Body Armor is not something you need to drink every day (unless you want to).  I drink it about every other day when I need to pump milk to freeze.   But go ahead and give it a try.  Its sold at most grocery stores and Target.  You can even buy it in bulk from Amazon.

    This was really interesting advice. I really didn’t know that Body Armor could help boost your milk supply! I have a friend who needs help in this area. So I will recommend this to her.

    Yayyy!!! Jenn this is so good! I’m so stoked I shared this with you and now you are blessing other mamas with the true “milk supply breakthrough!” You are so talented friend!! And you know! I honestly swear by body armor and it increasing a mamas milk supply! My baby not being able to nurse was such a bummer and pumping is so rough but thanks to body armor I have a HUGE freezer stash so I will be able to feed my baby Breast milk well into her first year of life even after my pumping journey ends! Yayyyyy body armor! Gotta go pump! 😂
